Another Day of Infamy

Today is Thursday, September 11, 2025. It marks the sad anniversary of an attack on our nation perpetrated by enemies from outside our nation. Twenty-four years ago, two planes, hijacked by these deadly enemies of our nation, struck the World Trade Center, taking the lives of nearly 3,000 people, none of whom were expecting anything other than a “normal” day.
Yesterday, September 10th, marked the day of another attack on our nation, this time perpetrated by an enemy from inside. Charlie Kirk, a follower and disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ was murdered in cold blood. (You can find a great deal about Charlie Kirk, his ministry and the effectiveness of his message regarding God’s kingdom from your internet browser.)
He was on the campus of a Utah college, doing what he was so effective in doing, talking to college students, telling them that there was more to life than what they were striving for. He was promoting the Kingdom of God with truth and love. But because his message was so hated by someone, he was shot and killed. This was not spur-of-the moment act driven by passion. It was an act preceded by cunning planning, an act promoted and implemented by the enemy of our souls. This was more than a political assassination. This was the martyring of a Christian, one of God’s servants and spokesman.
Quite coincidentally (is there anything that is truly “coincidental”?), today’s daily devotion from CBN, which had been prepared long before it was published this morning, brought forth a scripture taken from Paul’s second letter to the church in Corinth. “For we who live are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh.” 2 Cor. 4:11.
This devotion goes on to say “We don’t suffer in vain! It is all for His love and glory, instead of our own. Every time we endure a trial, we are being renewed to be made more like Christ.” Charlie’s trials are now over as he is “present with the Lord”. He will continue to serve as an example for all those who wish to be steadfast, faithful and true followers of our Lord. We need the same level of love, devotion, dedication and fortitude to do all that we can to push back against the darkness that is threatening to destroy our nation, and us with it.
My only exposure to Charlie Kirk was through seeing and hearing him on TV, through interviews and news clips showing his ministry. Yesterday brought forth a virtual flood of testimony of those who knew him and his love, devotion and dedication to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In coming to know him in such a tiny measure, I can believe that through this tragic event, God’s purposes will be fulfilled. I can pray that “eyes will be opened to see, that ears will be opened to hear and hearts will be opened to understand and receive the love that Christ died to bring us.
